One of my favorite old timers. Gooney Bird to his team mates. Perfect game against the Dodgers in the 1956 World Series on 97 pitches. I have an autographed group photo of Larsen, Yogi Berra, David Wells, Jorge Posada, David Cone and Joe Girardi from the last night at "old Yankee Stadium" that I cherish. The only three Yankee perfect games in history but Larsen's was so much bigger than the other two. The always pivotal game 5 of a series tied at 2 each. They were to headed back to Ebbets Field for game 6 and 7, where the Dodgers had won the first two games of the series. When a guy pitches the best game of his career at the most crucial point of the World Series, a season after losing to the Dodgers for the first time in the World Series, he becomes immortal in baseball history. Rest in peace Gooney Bird.
