If she ever made the LPGA tour I could see the ratings go up along with other things. 8-)

I used to carry a 1 iron because I was in the woods so much. Aim for the center of the fairway and keep it under the limbs. The natural slice usually had it headed towards the green.

I've been using my #3 hybrid for that. I'm tempted to put my old 12 degree driver in the bag for that situation. A couple years ago I used to use that club for the trees. I could hit as hard as I want and that ball won't lift more than a couple feet off the ground. I've had rollouts around 180 yards when the fairways are dry. But I'd have to take another club out of the bag to stay at 14 clubs. That's the reason I switched to the 3 hybrid.

Yeah my theory now, in my rediscovery of golf, is 14 clubs in the bag.....doesn't leave room for a 1 iron. I've got 4 through loft wedge and a putter. Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and 7 wood. That last one is really a nice club to use.

There was a time when the 7 wood was my everything wood. I could choke down and hit a 150 yard shot. I could close the face and hit a 200 yard plus shot. That was a few years ago. But now I can't hit any fairway wood with consistency. I only use hybrids now for my longer fairway shots. Funny thing, the driver is one of my more consistent clubs. I usually hit 9 or 10 fairways a round now. But that swing doesn't work for fairway woods. The clubs in my bag are driver, 3 and 4 hybrids, 5 through pitching wedge irons, 4 wedges and the putter.

I use the 64 degree wedge primarily for most bunker shots around the green. I'm not good enough to open the face and stance like the pros tell you. I figure that loft is the same and I can line up straight. Works good for me. I almost always get out of the sand safely. My grandson even tells me I'm better than he is with bunker shots. So much that when I see my ball headed for the bunker I usually say "Get in there!" I don't have the same confidence out of the grass.

The thing that is frustrating about my swing is it changes over time. For a few months I can hit a certain club great. Then all of a sudden I can't hit it. I improvise with another club and that one works good. Problem is, when I find out the good club isn't working its during a round. The round where my game falls apart because of it. I've been fortunate that club hasn't been the driver the past couple years. I do spend a lot of time with it at the range.

The weather's nicer today than the past few days. Its dropping back to the mid 90's from 107 yesterday. We're playing a round this afternoon. Should be nice. Last time I went out it was pretty windy. Affected some shots. The warm weather should get me more distance on the tee shots.

Ok, so I just had to post this. Ok, maybe I didn't have to. But I did. 8-)

I've mentioned my 18 year old grandson is a pretty good golfer. I just wish the kid would spend more time with it. He could be really good. His short game is so good with the wedges, when the ball is on the edge of the green he's hoping its on the grass so he can use his wedge. He's that confident with it. Me, if that ball is 10 or 15 feet off the green, I'll putt that as long as the grass isn't too thick. My grandson has made some chips off the green and is almost always within one putt range when he doesn't.

The other day, we were on the 18th hole. He pulls his drive off the fairway and it ends up behind a tree about 175 to the green. He needs a par to break 80. I told him he was gonna have to chip back on the fairway and take his chances with a mid iron. He says "Nope, I'm gonna try and hook it around the tree". I told him I didn't think that was a smart move. He not only needs to hook it right it has to stay low so it doesn't hit a branch.

So he proceeds to hit a shot that takes a 45 degree turn and heads up the fairway and rolls about ten yards short of the green. If he didn't clip a couple leaves it probably woulda made it to the green. He then chips to about a foot and half. Makes the putt and gets his 79. Not the first time he broke 80 but that is always his goal.

Me, on the other hand, well, lets just say I kinda gave up keeping score by the time we hit hole 15. I just wanted to work on some things I've been having trouble with. It was that bad. And I was doing so much better lately. Steadily dropping my score to the low 90's almost ready to break 90. Until Thursday's round. :evil2:

It was pretty hot. 106 on Thursday. That is my excuse and I'm sticking with it. :oops2: 8-)

I will say if it wasn't for playing golf I woulda gone stir crazy during the shelter in place order and no sports to follow on TV. They did close the courses down for a few weeks. But that's it. If only I didn't suck at golf. :shock2:

Ok, so I got my Medicare card a few days ago. That should tell you my age. I've been hitting the range every week. When I swing the driver I hit a few as hard as I possibly can. I can't do it too many times because it would wear me out. I guess something with that swing has made a difference. I played 9 holes yesterday. I joined 3 guys who played off the gold senior tees. I still hit of the white men's tees even though its perfectly acceptable to hit off the shorter tees at my age. The last 3 holes with the driver I went 260/275/270 off the tee. I have no idea why I all of sudden am hitting like I was 15-20 years ago, but I ain't complaining. Oh, and I also shot plus 8 for the 9 holes. I think I'm getting better at this game. I only play 9 holes at a time until the time change, but its now 4 consecutive 9 hole rounds without a triple bogey. I used to have at least 3 or 4 of those per 18 holes.
