First off, I'm a lifelong Yankee fan but I know Ted Williams was one of, if not the greatest hitter of all time. Lifetime numbers? .344 average; 2654 hits; 521 HR; 1839 Rbi; 2021 BB; 709 K's; .482 OB%; .634 Slug%; 1.116 OPS. Hell you say!!!!

Now consider this.

He missed his 5th, 6th and 7th season to fight in WWII at the ages of 24, 25 and 26. As if that weren't enough he fought in the Korean War in between playing 6 games in 1952 and 37 in 1953. He was 33 and 34 years old. So basically, the guy missed the prime of his career to fight in WWII and the prime of his 30's to fight in Korea. And he still hit 521 homers?

If it weren't true it would be comical.

Had he played those years in full, he arguably would have had close to 700 homers and well over 3000 hits. Probably close to 3500 and over 2400 Rbi. Those numbers would put him 5th in homers (3rd among the non-steroid users); first in Rbi; probably first in walks and finally 5th in hits. He's currently 7th in all time batting average.

My god, the man was incredible!!!
