.....it's such a nice time to be a Rams fan.

Now we're wondering what tweaks have to be made, what players have to emerge, what surprises will occur that will help us win a Superbowl.

After years of what major steps have to be taken, what players have to have career years, what breaks we have to get, that will help us get to .500 or 9-7.

Someone, somewhere pointed out that this year the Rams can join the 600 win club as a franchise. Which means they've had some pretty good teams over the years. They've been a pretty good franchise. When you think of the reality, 8 winning seasons the last 31 years, the Rams had to have had a lot of pretty good seasons prior to 1990 to be approaching 600 wins. And furthermore, to realize 4 of those 8 winning seasons have occurred the last 4 years, we know we're in a good spot.

Sure we only have the 17th best winning percentage among the 32 NFL teams but some haven't played 500 games (4). The original AFL teams (8) will have to play 4 more years (@ 17 games per year) to get to 1,000 games. And others like Atlanta (848), Dallas (930), Minnesota (918), New Orleans (834), Cincinnati (820), Miami (848) and Tampa (708) will have to play more than 4 seasons to get to 1,000.

Of the 12 teams to amass 1,000 or more games, the Rams are #8 in win percentage all time. But teams like Chicago (1418 GP), Green Bay (1384) and the Cardinals (1378) were beating teams like the Akron Pros and the Pottstown Maroons. As a result, prior to 1950 they had winning percentages of .706 (Chicago) and .667 (Green Bay). The age of "modern NFL football" began in 1950, when the Colts, Browns and 49ers joined the NFL to make it a league of 13 teams. 12 of them are still playing (the NY Yanks played 3 seasons) and of the 12 the Rams rank #7 in win percentage from 1950 on.

We could say the 2nd age of "modern NFL football" began in 1970 with the merger. The Rams rank #16 in win percentage (.501) over that span. And that's with 8 winning seasons in the last 31 years!! But Seattle (.514) didn't join the NFL until 1976 and Baltimore (.559) didn't join until 1996.

Yeah, us Ram fans have been rooting for a pretty good NFL franchise!!! Not to mention the innovations originated by the Rams over the years. TV, scouting, helmet design, etc.

As one of the more chronologically advanced here, I can recall nearly a quarter of a century of Ram perpetual winning seasons from the late 60's to January 1990, when we lost to SF in the NFC Championship Game. Those halcyon winning years were pulled off by Ram Head Coaches named Allen, Knox, Malvasi, Robinson....and even a guy named Prothro won more games than he lost! Oh yeah, and Los Ramos made it to a SB, and were leading the powerful Steelers 19-17 early in the 4th Quarter that sunny Pasadena Sunday back in January 1980.

So kudos to Sean McVay as he has put together 4 winning seasons in a row.....but it's not like he discovered fire or invented the internal combustion engine. IE. Winning Rams seasons have been amassed before by past Ram HCs........and under Ram Ownership that was not as enlightened (or as liquid) as Enos Stan Kroenke is today.

IIRC Robinson has most Rams wins as HC and Martz, I think, still has the highest winning percentage.....lofty career goals for our youthful HC of today.

I'm working on it. I've been trying to get my grand kids to get on board with the Rams. I tell them they I need to pass the snackdaddy legacy down to them.

So far their only interest is video games. But the youngest picks the Rams most times when he plays Madden. So there is hope.
