I wonder which NFL team will hire the first female Head Coach?

Jennifer King Hired by Redskins as NFL's 1st Full-Time Black Female Coach
Paul Kasabian
February 08, 2020

Jennifer King, who served as a Carolina Panthers intern during the 2017 preseason, has joined the Washington Redskins' staff as a full-time assistant coach.

"Jennifer is a bright young coach and will be a great addition to our staff," head coach Ron Rivera said in the team's release. "Her familiarity with my expectations as a coach and my firsthand knowledge of her work ethic and preparation were big factors in bringing her to the Redskins."

Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic first reported the hire on Saturday.

King is the first full-time African American female coach in league history and the fourth woman with a full-time assistant job overall, per Walker. Collette Smith was the NFL's first black female coach, serving as an intern with the New York Jets in 2017.

King served as an intern for Carolina from May through August 2017 under then-Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, who now leads the 'Skins after being hired in December.

Since then, King worked as an assistant wide receivers coach for the now-defunct Alliance of American Football's Arizona Hotshots and as an offensive assistant for Dartmouth College.

Both teams excelled in 2019: The Hotshots co-led the AAF West division with a 5-3 record when the league folded. The Big Green went 9-1 (6-1 Ivy League) and finished second in their conference.

Prior to her Panthers' coaching stint, King played in the semi-pro Women's Football Alliance, winning three championships. She also coached youth and high school teams, per Walker.

As has been the case throughout her coaching career, King will work on the offensive side of the ball, specifically with Washington's running backs.

She joins Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant defensive line coach Lori Locust, Bucs assistant strength and conditioning coach Maral Javadifar and San Francisco 49ers offensive assistant Katie Sowers as the only women working as full-time NFL coaches.

When chicks start playing, I'm out lol. Not to be sexist or anything. First women refs, now women coaches, so what comes next? Players.

Well, of course she's black full time.

How could you be black only part time?

...or did I misread the headline?

I got every 80s game on disk and every game from 1999 to 2003. I'll be all set 8-)

I'm not really the type to get in here and cause problems, but I can't let this just sit out here like this without responding. This is a horrible sentiment to be posting, especially when there are women on this board. :(

We should be better than this.

Will a female kicker be enough to make you leave? Because I could maybe see that happening.

Isn't there already a female Neiner coach? Not AA though. I saw a lot of her in commercials leading up to the SB.

Until there is a transgender, multi-racial, octogenarian, Satanic Druid, undocumented immigrant coach who identifies as a border collie, none of us will be free.

(That said... I don't care about the sex, gender, religion, race, age or national origin of our players and coaches... as long as they help us win.)

She's a strength coach.

She's not the only one.

Yeah, if a woman is good enough to play then that's all that matters. I don't see how that can ever happen for most positions but I don't really care. If they start mandating that there has to be a woman or 3 or 5 on each team arbitrarily then I'll have a problem.

Is there a difference between strength coach and trainer? I thought there have been women staff on NFL teams for while now? From medical assistants to trainers to whatever. The lady in Washington is an actual positional coach though, isn't she? Which is something more.
