In a pinch to find space under the salary cap, the Rams will attempt to trade running back Todd Gurley.

Whether L.A. can pull it off remains another question, given Gurley's massive contract that includes $45 million in guarantees and runs through the 2023 season, as well as the uncertainty that continues to surround the long-term health of his surgically repaired left knee. Before his disappearance late 2018, folks would have snatched him up in a heartbeat, , even with his gawdy new deal.

The thing I just can't wrap my head around is why on earth the Rams gave him all that money? They must have had no clue he had deteriorated to last years version of TGII prior. How is that possible? Or is he going to come back strong in 2020?

Timing is everything and this worked out horribly for the Rams, so far.

It won't be easy to trade Gurley. I think they have to bite the bullet and keep him another season. Maybe a fresh offseason can help like it did after 2016. If he's healthy enough early in the season I think the pitch count thing would not be a good idea. Ride him all you can. If he breaks down, maybe you still make the playoffs and have a fresher Henderson and Brown.
