Snead and his dealings. The regression this offense has shown is staggering. We can’t compete with even average teams. We can beat crappy ones, except the Bucs. So we will probably only win 2 maybe 3 more games. There is just no evidence to the contrary.

Stan has to be at least somewhat concerned that his staff has made some poor investments and very questionable football decisions. Things that will prevent being a contender right as they open his brand new stadium. Not good at all.

The play calling is also bad. Can you honestly blame everything Goff does poorly on the o line? Where’s the run game, jet sweeps, screens game, quick pass game (slants, come backs), where are the RBs in the passing game by design, not dump off options??? Have we run a draw at all? If the coach KNOWS his o line is limited, can he not come up with Some things that work consistently, semi-consistently? the fake punt? WTF was that? And why? Why the “hey he’s not going to punt play? Desperation in a one score game.

It’s more than the o line but yes, they are a major problem.

And how do they fix the o line?

Bad OL play = bad offense

Good QB play, healthy RBs, good play calling won’t change that against a quality defensive.

Not sure I agree with that. Good QB play and good play calling accounts for quality defenses. All defenses have weaknesses. There is something to be gained on most plays, IF the play caller, Qb etc can find it and execute. We made some positive plays, with a garbage o line.

Certainly have to question the talent evaluation and the allocation of salary cap dollars to which position and to whom. Well run teams don't make the emotional decision to keep popular players and reward them with ill advised bloated contracts that become an albatross. The extension to Tavon Austin, Havenstein, Higbee and Gurley come to mind as some head scratchers.

Forfeiting future draft capitol for expensive veteran players is also a risky venture. Last year we were all saying Snead was a genius, but after watching the OL play I sure wish we had some first round draft capitol to acquire OL talent that can plug and play. He'll need to "hit big" on free agents next year or the McVay/Snead era might be a one and done (super bowl) tandem.

Draft capital is not robust. Caps space? Available OL in F/A, trade? I do t know enough about the latter to comment. But ya, they better make that a priority and they better hope that leads to a real offense again. I think the playbook needs help as well. Time to evolve.

Agree. However Gurley was well worth the contract at the time. I do t think they saw the knee issue coming, if there even is a significant knee issue. Even though Kroner runs primarily a ZBS, I don’t think he has the athletes to run it now. Saffold was a very big loss it now seems. Perhaps they should start implementing some blocking schemes that fit these players. Whatever that might be????
