According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mahomes is expected to be out for the next three weeks at a minimum. That, of course, is if knee ligaments withstood the patella dislocation injury, which the MRI results will reveal shortly.

Obviously, this would be the best-case scenario for the Chiefs and their star QB. The worst-case scenario would be season-ending knee surgery and a trip to injured reserve for Mahomes.

If Mahomes were to return in three weeks, he’d miss two straight home games against the Packers and Vikings, as well as a road game against the Titans in Week 10. He very well could return against the Chargers in their Mexico City showdown in Week 11. That’d be ideal because he’d have the bye week to rest just after.

The best thing about this timeline is that the Chiefs only face one AFC conference team during that span. If they can just manage to get a win against the Titans and perhaps steal another game in the process, they’ll be in good shape to still make a postseason run.

The most important thing, however, is that the Chiefs get back a healthy Patrick Mahomes. The last thing you want to do is rush him back from this type of injury and potentially put his career on the line. If there are any accompanying risks like that related to an early return, the Chiefs should be smart and shut him down for the remainder of the season.

DENVER —

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport both reported Friday afternoon that the results of Patrick Mahomes’ MRI on his injured right knee were positive for a return this season.

“He’ll return this season after a short time on the sidelines,” Rapoport said.

Schefter reported Mahomes’ MRI was, in the words of a league source, “good” and it “turned out to be a best-case scenario.”

Prior to the MRI, the Chiefs believed the best-case scenario was Mahomes missing “about three games.”

The reason I bring this up....
just as we recognize that injuries are part of the NFL game, I contend that, so too should we recognize that teams need Draft Picks to replenish their Rosters each year right?

In the specific case of Mahomes, his backup isn't a Chiefs draft pick he's a FA vet who was basically out of football before signing with the Chiefs.

So there's more than one way to build your roster.

Also, it was just a few weeks ago when the Rams were making their cuts and we were all decrying how talented they were, how they would have to cut guys who could start for other teams.

I know we just lost 3 in a row but if you zoom out a little, the system seems to be working...

Ah yes....I remember another "generational QB that would change the NFL forever".....
RGIII. :o

Back late in the 2012 season, the Kid got a wobbly knee, but they were Playoff bound, "so damm the torpedoes, full speed ahead" for the phenom from Baylor, Robert Griffin III said Mike Shanahan, his well-meaning Head Coach, who BTW now, today, is thought of as a butcher, a greedy HC, who ruined the young talented RGIII.

It will be interesting to see how history turns out for KC Head Coach Andy Reid if somehow Mahommes is brought back "too early", and suffers a relapse or other complications. I remember Griffin was 110% eager to play on his damaged knee....then that fumble against the Seahawks (I think) where he could not even bend down to retrieve the ball.....

Point being, RGIII was never the same again, and became a QB pariah even the hapless Browns demoted and let go eventually. These days RGIII, the guy who was going to be the new prototype QB for the NFL going forward....well, he just backs up the Ravens QB in Baltimore.

Note to Andy Reid:
Caveat Emptor!
