I found this on my Facebook memories feed today.

I watched A Football Life on the NFL netWork tonight about the Rams Fearsome Foursome...great watch. Great Quote from Merlin Olsen.....Olsen’s mission statement reads:
“The focus of my life begins at home with family, loved ones and friends. I want to use my resources to create a secure environment that fosters love, learning, laughter and mutual success. I will protect and value integrity. I will admit and quickly correct my mistakes. I will be a self-starter. I will be a caring person. I will be a good listener with an open mind. I will continue to grow and learn. I will facilitate and celebrate the success of others.”

There is a reason that many of us are Rams fans in part due to #74.

......or viewing a Rams DLineman's quote that's in a slightly different direction :o ...

Yes, very upstanding quote from #74 Merlin Olsen, member of some great Rams DLines, the Fearsome Foursome of course, where he teamed with Deacon, Rosey Grier/Roger Brown and Lamar Lundy.

And, Merlin also played in a Rams DLine with DE Fred Dryer #89.

After Merlin had retired, Fred Dryer was part of a record-setting Los Ramos D that in a 1979 in the long-ago demolished Kingdome in Seattle, limited the Seahawks to NEGATIVE OFFENSIVE YARDAGE (due to numerous sacks of Seahawk QB). Asked shortly after the game by a media guy what it felt like to hold the opposing team to negative yardage for a whole game, Fred Dryer had a good quote:

"What does it feel like? It feels like when you are in a bar at 2 AM that's closing, and suddenly a beautiful woman walks in, sits down.....turns towards you
.....and she smiles at you. That's what it feels like!" 8-)

I always did like Freddy Dryer.
My fav quote?
Norm Van Brocklin hated the press and they did not get along well at all. In one presser he appeared to be noticeably nicer, and then looking around the room he said, " You know what? If I had to get a brain transplant, I realized I'd want it from one of you guys". One of them seemed really moved by that. Then Norm said, "yeah, I'd want one that hadn't been used".

great documentary... irrc that quote is from a" life mission statement" that he wrote, which was discovered after his death, and i think phil (his brother) read it in part (or whole) during the documentary... he really seemed like a special guy, especially touching in the documentary was his lifelong friendship with lundy, who he took care of (financially) when lundy hit hard times, and towards the end of his life.

My favorite NFL quote was said and I can’t remember by who. After the N.Y. Jets signed Tim Tebow, they had 6 QB on their preseason roster. The quote:
“the Jets have a qb for every day of the week.....
Except Sunday”
One of my all time faves, was from a college coach:
The man who complains about the way the ball BOUNCES is likely the one who DROPPED it." - Lou Holtz

speaking of college football coaches, woody hayes has to rank among the king of quotes:

> Hayes when asked why he went for two after final touchdown in 50-14 win over Michigan: Because I couldn't go for three.

> Hayes to assistant coach Ed Ferkany as they were low on gas in Michigan on a recruiting trip: We do not pull in and fill up. And I'll tell you why we don't. It's because I don't buy one goddamn drop of gas in the state of Michigan. We'll coast and push this goddamn car to the Ohio line before I give this state a nickel of my money.

> Without winners, there wouldn't be civilization.

> There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you.

> Success - it's what you do with what you've got.

> The only meaningful statistic is number of games won.

> Feeling cold is psychological.

I have pages of quotes. One of my favorites: "No one in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein." - Joe Theisman

A few of many John McKay quotes;

"Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast."

"Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can't play football worth a damn."

On his team's blocking strategy: "Hold when you're at home and don't hold when you're on the road."
