since joining the saints in 2006, the rams defense has made life tough for brees whenever he's had to travel away from his comfy new orleans digs to face them.

brees owns a career 1-3 road record against the rams while his saints have averaged a staggeringly low 18 offensive points per game in those meetings - moreover his road qb rating against the rams is a pedestrian 84.1; he's thrown 5 tds vs 6 picks... and it's not as if the rams just happened to catch brees and the saints on offensive off years, far from it, the saints ranked 1st in offensive scoring in two of those years and 4th in the two others.

compare that to what he's done to the rams defense when facing them in new orleans - 105.8 qb rating, 34 offensive points per game on avarage, 15 tds vs 5 picks, and those numbers would have been even higher if not for the tremendous defensive effort the rams delivered in last year's championship game.

team mcvay / phillips have faced brees and the saints 3 times - they held them to just 20 offensive points at home in 2017 and to just 23 offensive points on the road in the nfc cc game, the saints offense ranked 4th and 2nd in scoring those years... so can the boys dial up another defensive home gem this weekend? hell yeah!

That;s not easy. As everyone knows the 2019 Saints have a great OL. In the championship game Fowler and Suh combined for 2 sacks. In the regular season game it was zero. Though as mentioned this game is in LA and they got pressure at home on Brees before...so we'll see.

But as you said this game is in LA not NO. And Brees is noticeably worse on the road than at his dome.

Fowler is totally integrated into the defense now. He is a big key to getting pressure on Brees.

I keep hearing how Belichick got the better of the Saints and Rams in the trades concerning B.Cooks.

That is total nonsense.

He essentially traded Ramczyk for Cooks then traded Cooks for Wynn. In essence, Belichick traded away Ramczyk for Wynn.

Belichick didn't win anything.

Belichick didn't win anything.

Cooks was traded by two teams in his 5 year career. But it appears he's found a home in LA. I doubt he's going anywhere anytime soon. His skill set balances out the receiver group nicely. Defenses can't take away the short and intermediate stuff with him out there.

In the home games where the Rams beat the Saints in the last few years (going back to 2011) they not only got to Brees, they rattled him.

It was visible watching the game. You could see it.

But this may be the best OL the Saints have had in a long time, and they have had good ones for a while now.

Why is starting a rookie mean they're not as good?

There have been good rookie centers in the NFL on a regular basis throughout the history of the NFL. And as it happens this one is getting high praise so far too.

They have one of the 2-3 best OT tandems in the league.

Their guards played well last year and so far have started out the same way.

It's not just "some building it up." It is the consensus view of every analyst who focuses on OL play that the Saints have a good one. And they know about McCoy.

And so IMO--it should be a war.

AND the Rams beat up both the Dallas and Saints OLs last year in the playoffs so we know they can take it to them.
