BobCarl wrote:the key word is "tax" ... when it comes to the new stadium, Kroenke is a payer, not a taxpayer.

Stadiums paid with tax money are often a bad investment, because the return in taxes and "trickle down" taxes do not pay for themselves.

Owners of the team that plays in tax-funded stadiums benefit as the value of their team goes up.

Kroenke's business model is different.

With Kroenke, he will probably put the stadium, and the cash flow of the team on a break-even course. And any profits will be re-invested into the team and stadium.

Nevertheless, the team and stadium will subcontract many of their ancillary service needs (directly or indirectly) from entities owned by Kroenke.

At least that seems to be his M.O. for the teams he owns in Lundon and Denver

You know, I hear about Stan being greedy and all about money. Mostly from the jilted city but there is that perception. I don't believe this venture with the new stadium is about money. He's already made more than most people can dream of.

I believe its about his legacy. He wants to be the guy who brought football back to LA and he wants that football team to be a winner. Everything I see him doing seems to be about the team and not his bank account. If he makes money with that, fine. But I don't think that is the driving force behind all of this.

If St. Louis is such a rotten place, then why does he want more of our tax money to build a shopping plaza?

Bad football market doesn't equal rotten place to build a shopping plaza.

But trolling = trolling, how 'bout a week off?

St Louis is not a rotten place. Its just not as good a football market as it is a baseball market. Stan is from the area. He has established connections there. His associates have connections there. Sometimes these things have been in the works for a long time. Makes sense to continue rather than jump to another area and start over.

St. Louis: Tax funded stadiums are a rotten waste of taxpayer money, there's no economic benefit!

St. Louis (later): How dare you take a home game away from us! There's going to be massive economic impact from not having that home game!

St. Louis (also later): What, the Cardinals need money? Welp ok here's the open wallet!

Umm

The St. Louis Baseball Cardinals paid for pretty much all of Busch Stadium. The only public money was to move utility lines and a highway ramp. "Only" $20 million.

The new MLS stadium in St. Louis will be 100% private money.

We learned our lesson.
