This was back when VCR's were getting popular and we won one through the company my mom worked for. I was taping stuff like crazy. To be able to watch whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted? Truly amazing.

Anyway, I still remember having the blank tape ready to record ED breaking the record...the NEXT week. In week 15 against the Oilers he was still almost 200 yards short of the record so there was no reason to record THAT game. No way he'd get enough yards against Houston, especially since they would specifically be trying to prevent him from getting the record against them.

215 yards later and I'm excited that he got the record but in disbelief as well as disappointed that I didn't get it on tape. In my defense, we didn't have an endless supply of tapes to record on so I had specifically set this one aside and guarded it's blankness in anticipation of the record.

There's no real punchline but that is what I think of every time ED's record comes up.

No need for a punchline when it THAT good.
